Textile Preservation Associates records, ca.1980-ca.2005.

The bulk of the collection consists of treatment files from Textile Preservation Associates (TPA), including treatment proposals; analyses of the items to be conserved; reports of work done; photographs of items before, during, and after treatment; and samples of threads and fabrics. Often, drawings showing details of construction of the items are included, and there is a cloth pattern for the suit of clothes worn by Abraham Lincoln the night he was assassinated. Sometimes, there is a history of the item being conserved or information about the person or military unit who made or used the item. Most of the photographs are slides or are on CDs. The collection also includes treatment reports completed while Ms. Thomsen worked for the National Park Service, reports of surveys and conservation assessments done for various collections, some correspondence, papers written by Ms. Thomsen, and papers presented at meetings sponsored by the Harpers Ferry Regional Textile Group, an organization of textile conservators working in and around Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. While Ms. Thomsen worked for the National Park Service, she researched the flags conserved by Katherine Fowler Richey and her mother Amelia Fowler, who worked in the first half of the 20th century. A group of slides includes images of items that Ms. Thomsen worked on while she was with the National Park Service as well as slides taken by Louise Cooley, another flag conservator. The collection also includes two examples of mounts for textiles.
